Beirut, Lebanon – In a stern warning to the Israeli military, Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem stressed that the Lebanese resistance group will take all necessary measures to ensure Israel’s compliance with the terms of a memorandum of understanding. The agreement, signed by Lebanon and Israel in 2006, requires Israel to withdraw partially from the disputed Shebaa Farms area, a move many argue is essential to stabilizing the volatile region.
Speaking during a recent interview, Sheikh Qassem reaffirmed Hezbollah’s commitment to pushing Israel to fulfill its obligations under the memorandum. He claimed that the Lebanese resistance will employ “international and Arab pressure” to achieve this goal, demonstrating the group’s resolve to address the contentious issue.
“The first clause of the memorandum of understanding is clear and straightforward: Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories, specifically the Shebaa Farms and the Kfarshouba Hills,” Sheikh Qassem stated firmly. “We will not hesitate to take the necessary measures to secure this withdrawal. We will seek support from fellow Arab states and international authorities to pressure Israel into compliance.”
Hezbollah’s stance on this matter is in line with Lebanon’s long-standing demand for full Israeli withdrawal from the territories in dispute. The Shebaa Farms region has been a source of tension between Lebanon and Israel, with the area serving as a symbolic focal point for many in the Lebanese resistance.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently expressed opposition to withdrawing from the Shebaa Farms region, maintaining that the territory is part of Israeli-occupied territory. However, the international community has generally supported Lebanon’s sovereignty over the area.
Sheikh Qassem’s strong statement underscores Hezbollah’s continued commitment to safeguarding Lebanon’s national interests. The group’s unwavering stance on the Israeli withdrawal serves as a reminder that, despite the intricate politics governing the region, certain issues remain at the forefront of Lebanese priorities.
With international and regional dynamics shifting constantly, the prospect of Israeli withdrawal from the disputed territory remains uncertain. As Sheikh Qassem’s comments demonstrate, the Lebanese resistance is not prepared to abandon its quest for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
