BEIJING, CHINA – JUNE 28

China and Russia Conclude Joint Air Patrol Over Pacific

China’s Defense Ministry announced on June 27 that the Chinese Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Forces concluded their 11th joint strategic air patrol over the Sea of Japan, the East China Sea, and the western Pacific. According to the ministry, this exercise showcased the ability of the two nations to work together in maintaining regional stability.

The joint patrol marked a significant display of military cooperation between China and Russia, further cementing their strategic partnership. The mission, which commenced on June 27 and concluded on the same day, saw Chinese H-6K bombers and Russian Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers flying over international airspace in a coordinated manner.

In a press release issued on June 27, spokesperson for the Chinese Defense Ministry, Ren Guoqiang, emphasized that the joint air patrol demonstrated the capabilities of the participating air forces to conduct long-distance missions and reinforce regional security. Ren also described the patrol as a symbol of the strong friendship and cooperation between the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces.

The Sea of Japan, the East China Sea, and the western Pacific have witnessed heightened military activity in recent years, with the United States, Japan, and other regional nations increasing their defense spending and conducting regular patrols in the region. The joint Chinese-Russian patrol highlights the efforts of Beijing and Moscow to counterbalance the influence of the United States and its allies in the Asia-Pacific region.

The successful completion of the 11th joint strategic air patrol is seen by observers as an essential demonstration of the military capabilities of China and Russia. Their combined military strength sends a message to the international community of their collective resolve to maintain stability and security in the region, particularly in light of ongoing regional and global tensions.

The ongoing partnership between China and Russia is widely regarded as one of the key elements in shaping the current global security landscape. With both nations increasingly cooperating on defense matters, including joint military exercises, arms sales, and anti-terrorism efforts, their strategic partnership continues to attract significant attention from international observers.
