ISRAELI DEFENSE MINISTER KATZ LAUDS NEW FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT WITH LEBANON

Tel Aviv, Israel – In a significant diplomatic and security development, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has hailed the recently signed Israel-Lebanon framework agreement as a historic achievement that has the potential to transform the northern border and strengthen Israel’s security in the long term. Speaking in his first remarks on the agreement, Minister Katz emphasized that the agreement marks a new era of safety for Israel’s citizens, while also serving as a strategic blow to the Iranian axis in the region.

As part of the agreement, the State of Israel has maintained its security zone in southern Lebanon, including the Beaufort Ridge, a sensitive area that has long been a source of contention between the two nations. Minister Katz stressed that Israel will preserve its freedom of action to eliminate threats against its soldiers and citizens residing in northern Israel. Notably, the agreement makes it clear that there will be no Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon as long as the Hezbollah terrorist organization has not been disarmed throughout Lebanon and the safety of northern residents has not been guaranteed.

The agreement is seen as a direct blow to Iran’s efforts to exert influence over Lebanon through its proxy terrorist organization, Hezbollah. In a statement, Minister Katz noted that the Iranian axis had attempted to force Israel to withdraw from Lebanon through threats and pressure on the United States, but ultimately failed in its endeavors. Instead, a framework has been established that requires the disarmament of Hezbollah throughout Lebanon, thereby making clear that Lebanon’s future will no longer be dictated by Iran and Hezbollah.

Minister Katz’s remarks underscore the magnitude of the agreement and the commitment of the Israeli government to ensuring its implementation. With Iran’s potential backlash still a concern, Minister Katz made it clear that if the Islamic Republic attempts to attack Israel in an effort to prevent the agreement’s implementation, Israel will respond with great force, firmly demonstrating the existing gap in power between the two nations.

In closing, the Israeli Defense Minister acknowledged that implementing the agreement will present significant challenges in the days ahead, and emphasized that the Prime Minister and the IDF are preparing for a prolonged stay in the security zone, with a focus on protecting IDF soldiers and removing threats to the communities of northern Israel. As Israel continues to navigate the complexities of this new framework agreement, its commitment to ensuring the security of its citizens remains unwavering.
