Tehran, Iran – In a stark escalation of regional tensions, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed Tuesday that Iranian warplanes and missile strikes targeted military installations and strategic positions in Kuwait and Bahrain, citing a direct response to earlier U.S. military operations against Iran.
According to official IRGC statements, the retaliatory strikes were conducted in the early hours of the morning local time, with multiple airstrikes and missile launches directed against key military facilities and bases in both Kuwait and Bahrain. The assault reportedly resulted in significant damage and casualties within the armed forces of both Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
The heightened level of violence follows weeks of increased tensions between the United States and the Islamic Republic, including the U.S. drone strikes targeting key IRGC personnel and infrastructure in January and subsequent U.S. airstrikes on Kata’ib Hezbollah militia camps along the Syrian-Iraqi border in February.
Speaking during a televised address, a senior IRGC commander declared Iran’s unwavering determination to repel any external aggression, emphasizing the legitimacy of the armed forces’ defensive actions. The commander stated: “With unwavering resolve and full solidarity with our great nation, the valiant Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will relentlessly protect this sacred soil against all threats.”
Regional analysts warn that such a significant escalation risks destabilizing the already-turbulent strategic dynamics within the region, with potential knock-on effects for neighboring countries. In a joint statement, diplomatic officials from GCC members urged calm, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and engage in peaceful dialogue to resolve the crisis.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials, when reached for comment, declined to comment on specific military operations but expressed concern regarding the heightened aggression in the region and reaffirmed their commitment to defending U.S. interests and allies in the area.
The developments highlight a growing concern about the prospect of a wider conflict engulfing the Middle East, a region long plagued by regional rivalries, proxy wars, and escalating tensions between global powers.
International diplomatic efforts aim to mitigate the escalating situation through diplomatic channels. However, the current trajectory suggests that military operations might intensify in the coming days, heightening uncertainty and posing substantial risks to regional and global stability.
