ANKARA,Türkiye – The Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a scathing statement condemning Israel’s recognition of the Armenian genocide, branding the decision as an attempt by the Netanyahu government to distract from its own human rights abuses and crimes against the Palestinian people.
The statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry noted that Israel’s recognition of the Armenian genocide was “an ill-intentioned initiative that disregards legal and historical facts.” The ministry emphasized that the move was a desperate bid by the Netanyahu government to divert attention from its own crimes, particularly the genocide allegations it faces at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) related to the people of Gaza.
Israel’s decision has sparked widespread criticism at home and abroad, with many accusing the government of hypocrisy. The Turkish Foreign Ministry was among the first to condemn the move, saying it was “systematic oppression of the Palestinian people in the eyes of the entire world.” The statement went on to note that the Israeli government was being tried at the ICJ for committing genocide against the Palestinian people.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also highlighted the fact that Netanyahu and his accomplices are the subjects of arrest warrants issued within the scope of an investigation being conducted by the International Criminal Court (ICC). These warrants were issued in connection with crimes committed against Palestinians, including mass killings, destruction of property, and displacement of civilians.
In a veiled warning to the Israeli government, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that it will continue “to work with determination for an end to Israel’s expansionist and destabilizing policies in the region and for the Netanyahu government to be held accountable before the law for the crimes it has committed against civilians, especially the Palestinian people.”
Turkey’s stance on the Israeli government’s recognition of the Armenian genocide reflects the country’s long-standing position on human rights and the protection of civilian populations in the region. The decision is also consistent with Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and to ensure accountability for those responsible for war crimes and human rights abuses.
