VENEZUELA EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORTS: U.S. ENVOY DEFENDS INTERIM GOVERNMENT ROLE

Caracas, Venezuela – In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes that struck Carabobo and the Falcon states in Venezuela, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires John Barret has addressed criticisms surrounding the role of the interim government in relief efforts.

Speaking to local journalists, Barret expressed his confidence in the commitment of the interim government to collaborate with international organizations, including the United States, in addressing the needs of affected communities.

I’ve seen, before the earthquakes, a commitment from the interim government to work and collaborate with us, Mr. Barret stated. After the earthquake, it hasn’t changed. This commitment remains strong, and we have already begun working together to bring aid to those in need.

Despite concerns from some quarters about the efficiency and effectiveness of the interim government’s response to the disaster, Barret emphasized the need for a unified approach in the face of such a catastrophic event.

The response to earthquakes requires a coordinated effort from all parties involved, he said. We have been working closely with Venezuelan authorities, as well as international partners, to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.

Barret acknowledged that there are still many challenges to be overcome in the relief effort, but expressed confidence in the ability of the interim government to rise to the occasion.

The people of Venezuela have shown great resilience in the face of this disaster, he said. We are committed to supporting them in any way we can, and we believe that the interim government shares this commitment.

The United States has pledged millions of dollars in aid to affected regions, with a focus on providing essential humanitarian assistance, including food, water, and shelter.

In addition to economic support, Barret emphasized the importance of diplomatic cooperation between the U.S. and the interim government in facilitating the delivery of aid.

We are committed to working closely with the interim government to ensure that our assistance is being used effectively, he stated.

As the relief effort continues, Barret urged all parties involved to put aside differences and work together in the spirit of unity and cooperation.

This is a critical moment for the people of Venezuela, he said. We must come together to support them in their time of need, and work towards rebuilding their communities.

In the coming days, the U.S. Embassy in Caracas will continue to work closely with the interim government, as well as local authorities and international partners, to provide essential assistance to those affected by the earthquakes.

As relief efforts gain momentum, Barret’s comments serve as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, cooperation and collaboration can play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of disaster.
