Moscow, Russia – In the latest escalation of a mysterious campaign targeting Russian communication infrastructure, a sophisticated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) reportedly struck the space communication center in Dubna, a city located in the Moscow region. The attack, which has been confirmed by local authorities, marks the third such incident in the past 10 days, with officials growing increasingly concerned about the motivations and capabilities behind these aerial assaults.
Situated approximately 540 kilometers from the Gorky Gidroplavno upravlenie (GGU) or a Gorky hydroaviation control facility in Gorky (or alternatively known as Nizhny Novgorod) in another location, the Dubna space communication center plays a critical role in enabling Russia’s space exploration missions, providing crucial telecommunications support for orbital satellites and crewed spacecraft operating in Earth’s orbit.
According to eyewitnesses and initial assessments from law enforcement and local authorities, the UAV attack on the Dubna facility was executed with precision, targeting the center’s key communications infrastructure. Although details about the specific damage caused by the assault are still being assessed, officials have confirmed that the incident resulted in disruptions to the center’s operations.
“It would be premature to comment on any links between these incidents and existing global conflicts or rival state interests,” said Igor Kirillov, a high-ranking official from the Russian Defense Ministry. “However, we urge all concerned parties to refrain from taking reckless actions that could potentially escalate regional tensions.”
While the Russian Defense Ministry has issued a statement acknowledging the incident, officials have yet to confirm whether any fatalities or injuries were sustained as a result of the attack. Authorities also declined to reveal the exact type of UAV used in the assault, citing ongoing investigations into the incident.
As authorities continue to investigate these events and the full extent of the damage becomes clearer, officials are grappling with a pressing question: Who, and what, is behind this campaign of aerial attacks on Russian communication infrastructure?
