Belarus Denies Allegations of Ceasing Cooperation with Russia, Warns Against Escalation

Minsk, Belarus – In a stern message to international observers, the Belarusian government has categorically denied reports suggesting that it has suspended collaboration with Russia in using its territory for military purposes. The clarification comes as concerns rise over the escalating Ukraine-Russia conflict and potential implications for Belarus.

According to official sources, the alleged claims emerged from unidentified international parties, fuelling speculation that Belarus was reconsidering its close ties with Russia, its key ally and main trading partner. Minsk officials refuted these reports, stating that there has been no policy shift regarding the use of Belarusian territory for military or other activities undertaken by Russia.

“We have cooperated with Russia on these matters before, and we see no reason to deviate from that stance now,” stated a high-ranking government official in Minsk, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Belarus remains committed to its strategic partnership with Russia, an arrangement that has served the interests of both nations and strengthened regional security.”

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine, as well as other Western nations, have been intensifying since Moscow’s recognition of the self-proclaimed Donbas republics and subsequent military intervention in Ukraine. Some reports have suggested that Belarusian territory might be at risk of being drawn into the conflict, with Russia potentially using its facilities and infrastructure to launch attacks.

However, the Belarusian government emphasizes that it stands firmly committed to maintaining a neutral stance in the conflict, despite its close ties to Russia. Officials caution against unfounded speculation that might jeopardize regional stability or create unnecessary alarm.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry issued an advisory to all foreigners residing in Belarus, particularly those with family ties to Ukraine, advising them to take necessary precautions. “Given the current situation, it would be prudent for foreign nationals, particularly those with personal connections to affected regions in Ukraine, to consider their options and make necessary arrangements,” a spokesperson for the ministry said.

The message seems aimed at warning those who might consider using Belarus as a staging ground for potential operations against the Belarusian state. Some international observers have interpreted the statement as an implicit warning to Ukrainian nationals or groups considering taking aggressive action against Belarus from its territories.
