“Singapore’s Education Minister Lauds Student Achievements, Expresses Optimism for Future.”

Singapore, 17 March 2023 – Education Minister Chan Chun Sing has recently praised the country’s students for their impressive academic performance, describing it as “very good.” This commendation comes after the release of the latest PSLE and A-level examination results, which showed a significant increase in the number of students achieving top grades.

During a press conference held at the Ministry of Education’s headquarters, Minister Chan attributed the success to a combination of factors, including the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and parents. He also acknowledged the effective implementation of the Education System and the supportive environment provided by the government.

Minister Chan noted that the increase in academic achievement reflected positively on Singapore’s education system, emphasizing that the country remains committed to providing high-quality education to all students. He expressed optimism that the nation’s young people will continue to excel, both locally and internationally, as they move forward in their academic and professional pursuits.

The latest PSLE results show that about 35% of students scored A grades, with the overall pass rate remaining steady at around 97%. In the A-level examinations, approximately 30% of students achieved an average grade of A or A. Minister Chan attributed the improvement in A-level results to the rigorous curriculum and the emphasis on science and mathematics, citing these subjects as key drivers of growth in the economy.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education has revealed plans to expand programs aimed at promoting STEM education, citing the growing demand for skilled professionals in these fields. The initiative will also see increased investment in digital literacy and the expansion of vocational training to equip students with the necessary skills for the modern workforce.

Minister Chan acknowledged that challenges still lay ahead, as the country continued to evolve and compete globally. However, he emphasized the Education Ministry’s commitment to innovation and reform, ensuring that students remained well-equipped to meet the demands of the 21st century.

When asked about the rising cost of education and concerns surrounding competition for places in top-tier institutions, Minister Chan downplayed concerns, stating that the current system allowed for adequate mobility and opportunities, both domestically and internationally.
