Lebanese Army Launches Cleanup Operation to Remove War Remnants from Southern Regions

BEIRUT, Lebanon – In a concerted effort to restore stability and ensure public safety, the Lebanese army has initiated a wide-ranging operation to remove and dispose of remnants from the country’s last civil war in the early 1990s.

According to a statement released by the General Directorate of Public Relations and Guidance, the Lebanese Armed Forces have launched a comprehensive cleanup operation in the southern regions of the country, focusing on removing war-torn infrastructure, unexploded ordnance, and other hazardous materials left behind by the conflict.

This initiative, which marks a significant milestone in Lebanon’s ongoing efforts to rebuild and recover from the trauma of its civil war, is expected to involve extensive cooperation between government agencies, security personnel, and specialized technical teams. The operation will prioritize areas where the risk of explosive materials and other hazards poses a significant threat to civilians, particularly in rural areas and along roadsides.

“We understand the importance of this operation and are committed to ensuring the safe removal of these remnants,” said a spokesperson for the General Directorate. “The Lebanese army takes pride in its efforts to maintain order and protect the public, and this initiative represents another important step forward in our quest to create a safer and more stable society.”

The operation has already commenced in several areas, with local government officials and residents cooperating closely with military personnel to ensure a smooth and efficient process. The Lebanese people have long struggled with the legacy of their country’s civil war, which resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, countless injuries, and the destruction of entire neighborhoods.

The cleanup operation will not only help to mitigate the risks posed by unexploded ordnance and hazardous materials but also provide a much-needed boost to local communities. “This initiative sends a powerful message about the government’s commitment to our safety and well-being,” said one resident of the southern region, who wished to remain anonymous. “We are grateful for the efforts of the Lebanese army and we look forward to a brighter future for our country.”

The Lebanese government has pledged to continue supporting the military’s efforts to clear war remnants and rebuild affected areas. In a statement released earlier this week, Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the importance of this initiative and pledged continued support for the Lebanese Armed Forces. “We recognize the bravery and professionalism of the Lebanese army as they work tirelessly to protect our citizens and restore stability to our beloved country,” said the prime minister. “This operation represents a significant step forward in our quest for peace and prosperity.”
