A coalition of U.S. military branches has launched an earthquake relief operation in Venezuela, in response to the devastating earthquake that hit the nation. In a significant display of inter-agency cooperation, the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps are working together to alleviate suffering and provide crucial aid to the affected communities.
As part of the relief efforts, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) released photographs showcasing a collaborative operation involving U.S. servicemembers working alongside their Venezuelan counterparts at the Port of La Guaira. Images obtained by SOUTHCOM demonstrate a group of U.S. Navy personnel transferring fuel to a 500-gallon collapsible drum. This strategic transfer will enable the delivery of much-needed fuel supplies to support ongoing relief operations in the region.
“It is in times of crisis that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our nations are tested and strengthened,” said Rear Admiral Peter Vasely, U.S. Navy’s Director of Logistics, when commenting on the relief efforts. “We are proud to partner with the Venezuelan people and military to provide assistance and support in the aftermath of this disaster.”
In Venezuela, where the recent earthquake has caused significant damage and loss of life, the U.S. military is drawing on its advanced logistics and supply chain capabilities to expedite the delivery of critical aid. The fuel supplies transferred to the collapsible drum at the Port of La Guaira will be used to power crucial equipment, including medical facilities, search and rescue teams, and water purification systems.
According to U.S. officials, the multi-service effort to support earthquake relief efforts in Venezuela underscores the strong foundation of bilateral cooperation between the United States and Venezuela. As President Joe Biden emphasized in his recent message of support, the U.S. government remains committed to providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the disaster, working closely with international partners, local authorities, and NGOs to deliver essential assistance.
“It is through joint efforts and cooperative action that we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by this tragedy,” Rear Admiral Vasely added, when reflecting on the significance of the U.S. military’s role in the relief operation.
