US-Israel Relations: Netanyahu Challenges VP Vance’s Statement on Global Support

Tel Aviv, Israel – In a recent response to a statement made by US Vice President Kamala Harris’s envoy Douglas Emhoff and US Vice President Kamala Harris, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the notion that the US is the last country still supporting Israel.

Netanyahu was reacting to a claim made by Douglas Emhoff regarding US support for Israel. However, in his statement, he cited the example of India, a strategic ally of Israel in South Asia. According to Netanyahu, India has emerged as one of the key nations that offer substantial backing to Israel.

“Israel has many friends around the world, and one of them is a small country, but a very powerful country called India,” Netanyahu said. “India has over 1.4 billion people, and we receive enormous support from there.” He continued by stating, “And it’s not just government support; we get massive support from the people of India. I’m actually flooded with messages on Facebook showing overwhelming support from the people of India.”

The statement appears to counter the claims made by US Vice President Kamala Harris’s envoy, who suggested that the United States remains the only country that supports Israel in the face of global isolation.

The comments from Netanyahu come amidst heightened tensions between the US and Israel over issues such as judicial reforms and Israeli settlement expansions. While the US has maintained its commitment to a two-state solution, Israel has continued to move forward with settlement activities, leading to increased international criticism.

Israel’s ties with the US, particularly under the current administration, have been strained. In recent months, Biden and Netanyahu have held multiple phone calls in a bid to mend relations and navigate pressing issues.

Tensions aside, Israel has continued to foster relationships with various nations worldwide, including India, which has been expanding its relations with Israel in recent years. The growing partnership between the two nations has seen a significant increase in defense and economic cooperation.

It remains to be seen how Netanyahu’s comments will affect the already fragile US-Israel relationship. However, given the ongoing disputes between the US and Israel, Netanyahu’s statements may indicate a shift in Israel’s diplomatic strategy, focusing on nurturing relationships with other countries in the face of mounting criticism from Western nations.
