PARIS, FRANCE – In a move aimed at reviving a long-suffering peace process, French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged unwavering support to the people of Syria, stating that no force will be able to suppress the country’s aspirations for sovereignty and unity.
Following a meeting with representatives from across the Syrian spectrum, including civil society activists, politicians, and business leaders, Macron expressed his admiration for the courage, determination, and dignity displayed by the Syrian people.
“The aspiration of the Syrian people to live in a fully sovereign, safe, pluralistic and united Syria will not be stilled,” Macron declared. “I witnessed the courage, dignity, and determination of the Syrian people in their quest for peace and stability. My visit to Syria will only continue to reaffirm the commitment of France to supporting these efforts.”
Macron’s visit to Syria is part of an ongoing international effort to revive the stalled peace process in Syria. The country has been embroiled in a brutal civil war since 2011, with multiple factions vying for control.
Throughout his journey across Syria, Macron met with leaders from all walks of life, underscoring his commitment to the country’s unity and sovereignty. Macron also emphasized the crucial role that a united Syria must play in regional stability, a message that resonated with many Syrian leaders he met.
“This is the chance for the United Nations, international partners, and Syrians themselves to work together to bring the country back to a path of peace and democracy,” Syrian politician, Feras Al-Bayoush, said in a press release. “It’s time to break the cycle of conflict and forge a better future for our people.”
Macron’s message marks a significant shift in tone from earlier statements, emphasizing a focus on a unified Syria over other competing interests. As one of the key players in the region, Macron’s visit has generated renewed optimism for a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict.
While some international leaders expressed skepticism about Macron’s efforts to reinvigorate the peace process, others hailed his dedication to a unified Syria as a significant step forward.
