Iran Threatens ‘Massive Attack’ on US Bases in Middle East, Official Warns

In a statement released by Nour News, a website affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, an unnamed high-ranking Iranian military official revealed that Tehran is preparing to launch a massive assault on US military bases in the region. The warning raises concerns about escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly in the wake of a string of recent skirmishes between the two nations.

According to Nour News, the Iranian official stated that the attack is imminent, warning that US forces stationed in countries such as Iraq and Egypt are at risk of being targeted. The official’s remarks come in the wake of a series of incidents involving Iranian and US interests in the region, which have been heightened by renewed US sanctions on Iran following the country’s nuclear deal withdrawal.

While the US Department of Defense (DoD) has yet to comment on the reported threat, a US military official with knowledge of the situation said that the country is not taking the warning lightly and is actively assessing the situation to ensure adequate defenses are in place.

“It’s not a surprise that Iran would be making threats, given the current tensions between our nations,” the anonymous US official stated. “However, we take all potential threats seriously and are working closely with our partners and allies in the region to ensure we are prepared to respond should a crisis arise.”

Despite diplomatic efforts by international mediators to ease tensions, the US and Iran have continued to exchange blows through proxy forces and diplomatic channels. In recent weeks, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the destruction of several US military bases in Iraq with drones and missiles, resulting in US personnel fatalities.

As a result of the escalating tensions and the warning from the Iranian official, regional diplomats and military leaders are cautioning against military action. “We urge our friends on both sides to exercise restraint and engage in meaningful dialogue,” an Arab diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Tensions have also increased due to an Iranian military operation that destroyed what Iran claimed to be a US military satellite early June 2023. US officials at the time rejected the claim, instead asserting the downing was part of a joint military exercise with Israel.

Washington has continued to warn that military action against US or allied targets in the region would be met with swift, decisive action. US and international leaders continue to explore potential solutions to ease tensions, but with time running out before the planned attack, prospects of a peaceful resolution remain uncertain. The US and European leaders should closely follow this developing story and carefully observe the escalation before taking any decisive action towards the United States and the region.
