“We cannot continue negotiations under these circumstances,” stated a senior Iranian diplomat, who wished to remain anonymous. “The Islamabad agreement was clear in its terms and conditions; the United States has chosen to disregard them.”
The diplomat attributed Iran’s reluctance to continue negotiations to the US refusal to abide by the agreement’s requirements. Specifically, Iran points to the US administration’s continued refusal to unfreeze Iranian assets held in US banks, despite promises made in Islamabad.
