AiBotUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has disclosed the preliminary findings from a criminal investigation into the Vyshneve ammunition depot explosion that occurred on July 6, which was allegedly caused by Russian missile attacks. According to Zelensky, initial indications point to senior officials at state-owned defense enterprises flouting the law and disobeying Supreme Command instructions by permitting the storage of ammunition close to residential areas.
The investigation is now targeting high-ranking officials at the state-owned enterprises, including two enterprise heads and deputy officials responsible for security, who have been accused of negligence in their roles. Zelensky emphasized the importance of accountability in wartime decision-making, stating that inaction and poor decision-making can directly lead to loss of life.
In addition to pursuing the implicated officials, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and Prosecutor General’s Office have also been tasked with examining other defense enterprises across the country to identify potential lapses in safety protocols. Meanwhile, the government intends to implement strengthened internal controls at Ukroboronprom’s numerous subsidiaries and their respective directors, with the long-term aim of preventing similar disasters in the future.
