‘Kuwait Condemns ‘Terrorist’ Attacks on Border Posts and Oil Platform, One Injured in Drone Strike’

Kuwait has condemned a string of attacks on its northern border posts and a key offshore oil facility, as the Gulf state boosts security measures in response to perceived threats from rogue state actors and other entities.

According to official reports, three border crossings at the northern region’s Arimiya, Umm al Maradim, and Kabad were struck in a coordinated assault in the early hours of the morning. Authorities confirmed that at least one of the posts suffered significant structural damage in the raid, while nearby property also sustained extensive harm.

A Kuwati military spokesperson revealed that multiple drones appeared to have been launched from various directions at the northern border region. While the exact origins of these drones are still unknown, the involvement of rogue state-backed entities is currently being scrutinized by Gulf and international authorities.

Moreover, an offshore oil drilling platform operated by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) was also targeted in a separate, yet simultaneous, drone attack. At this facility, one employee was moderately injured when a flying projectile struck the platform. Fortunately, the wounded individual is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital for relatively minor injuries.

The injured individual has reportedly given testimony to investigative authorities, who are working assiduously to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack on the oil platform. It is expected that the incident will be the subject of a comprehensive investigation, which will also probe any possible connections to similar incidents in neighboring countries.

While Kuwait has thus far refrained from specifically attributing blame for the attacks, it has characterized the attacks as ‘terrorist’ in nature. The Kuwaiti foreign minister has condemned the incidents and has called for regional countries to strengthen cooperation against terrorism in order to prevent such acts. It should also be noted that Kuwait has maintained diplomatic relations with its regional allies and key international stakeholders to reinforce its stance against terrorism.

The incident on Wednesday morning comes during a heightened state of regional tensions. The attacks on Kuwait border outposts and oil infrastructure are the latest in a series of high-profile assaults in the wider region.
