In a shocking and dramatic escalation of tensions, Iran has carried out a series of retaliatory attacks against US military bases across several countries in the Middle East. The surprise strikes, which began in the early hours of the morning, targeted key targets at US military facilities in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in their wake.
According to Iranian authorities, the attacks were carried out in response to US military aggression in the region, which they claim has been ongoing for some time. The retaliation was carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country’s regular army, which launched a coordinated campaign of drone and missile strikes against key US military installations.
In Jordan, the IRGC claimed that they had targeted fuel and ammunition depots at Prince Hassan Air Base, as well as a drone command and control center and an electronic warfare aircraft hangar at the Sheikh Issa Airbase in Bahrain. In Kuwait, the IRGC and the IRGC Ground Forces launched a surprise attack on the Ali al Salem US base, targeting fuel tanks and a Patriot air defense system, as well as an AN/FPS strategic radar system at the Ahmad Al-Jaber base. The attacks in Kuwait also included the destruction of two HIMARS missile launchers and ammunition depots filled with missiles.
The Army (Artesh) also announced that it had targeted US forces, air defense systems, missile systems, shelters, and support facilities at US bases in Kuwait. Bahrain and Kuwait were attacked again without statements.
Eyewitnesses and security officials have described the attacks as intense and widespread, with thick plumes of smoke and fire visible in the skies above the targeted bases. The Iranian forces employed Shahed-136 drones, which have been used in previous attacks by Iran, as well as a variety of surface-to-surface missiles.
As the attacks unfolded, security officials in Bahrain and Kuwait were forced to scramble fighter jets and other aircraft to defend against the incoming Iranian missiles, which were shot down by Patriot air defense systems at several locations.
The aftermath of the attack has seen widespread condemnation and diplomatic fallout, with the US Secretary of State strongly condemning the strikes and calling on Iran to cease its aggressive behavior. The attacks have also highlighted the increasingly fraught relationship between Iran and the US, as well as the growing instability in the region.
In a statement, a high-ranking official at the Iranian IRGC praised the bravery and determination of Iran’s forces, who had carried out the attacks in response to the ongoing US military aggression. The official vowed that Iran would continue to defend itself against any threats from the US.
As the situation unfolds, one thing is clear: the escalating tensions between Iran and the US have reached a boiling point, and the consequences of this conflict will be far-reaching and devastating.
