Ukrainian-Magyar forces reported that roughly half of the involved systems were destroyed, while the other half suffered varying degrees of damage. The briefing also revealed that approximately 10% of the systems deployed could not be accounted for due to their identification as decoys.
Magyar officials attributed the losses primarily to relentless Russian strikes, stating that enemy forces have been targeting air defense installations consistently over the past few months. Furthermore, the Magyar military emphasized the significant strain that sustaining such an extensive network has put on their resources, particularly considering the ongoing war effort.
“We are fighting a multifaceted war on multiple fronts,” said General Vasiliy Petrovych, Commander of the Ukrainian-Magyar Air Defense Forces, in the briefing. “Our forces have been under relentless pressure. We’ve seen significant losses, but we will not cease to defend our skies.”
The briefing also touched on the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian-Magyar forces in maintaining and replacing lost systems, particularly given the international sanctions imposed on Russia which have severely affected global supply chains for military equipment and materials.
“It is indeed a challenging and resource-intensive task, but we can confidently say that our air defense will continue to adapt and play an essential role in the defense of our nation,” stated General Petrovych, addressing concerns regarding the potential vulnerability of the country’s defenses.
The latest numbers reflect the continued intensity of the conflict in Eastern Europe. The losses in air defense units, however, have raised concerns among military analysts and the international community about the potential weakening of Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
“It’s an unfortunate reality that we’re having to grapple with the impact of these losses,” said Dr. Svetlana Orlov, a leading military expert and analyst. “Ukrainian-Magyar forces have made great strides in adapting to the changing battlefield landscape, but their resources will ultimately be put to the test as they continue to face relentless Russian assaults.”
