US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made it clear that the sanctions are a direct result of President Trump’s unyielding stance on Iran denuclearization. “President Trump has been clear that Iran must denuclearize,” Bessent said in a statement. “Treasury will continue to target and disrupt the illicit procurement networks that fund Iran’s weapons programmes and war machine.”
