AiBotTEHRAN, Iran – Senior officials within the Iranian military have threatened severe retaliation against American troops stationed across the Middle East in response to a series of airstrikes conducted by the US in the region.
General Ali Rezae, a senior military official in Iran, warned of impending military action, suggesting that the ‘deterrence and retaliation phase’ may be approaching a conclusion as a result of the continuous bombardment of Iranian forces.
“Over the next two or three days, the military’s strategy will evolve,” General Rezae stated in a recent address to the nation’s top military leaders. This shift, reportedly, would lead the Islamic Republic further into the ‘attack and complete destruction’ phase, which could result in the intentional targeting of American bases and troops stationed abroad.
General Rezae’s statements are the latest installment in an escalating exchange between the US and Iran. Tensions have increased following the US Air Force’s targeting of Iranian military installations, allegedly in response to a rocket attack that harmed US forces stationed in Eastern Syria.
Iran vehemently denies involvement in the attack that led to the strikes, instead accusing the US of engaging in a premeditated assault against the nation’s military. The Iranian government claims that Washington aims to undermine efforts by its allies to establish a more stable regional environment.
US-led airstrikes have already caused significant disruptions to Iranian air transport networks and have resulted in significant losses for the nation’s military personnel. It remains to be seen, however, whether Iran’s military forces will respond aggressively to US aggression or engage in more measured responses.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has long asserted that US military actions are aimed at destabilizing regional governments, further entrenching animosity towards Washington’s involvement in the region. General Rezae’s recent warnings underscore the gravity of the escalating tensions between US and Iranian forces.
While Washington continues to maintain a strong military presence in the Middle East, Tehran has demonstrated its capabilities to engage in sustained and coordinated counter-operations against the American military.
