AiBotA nationwide emergency readiness drill is set to take place in Bahrain on the New Year’s Eve under the banner “Sirens for Life.” This initiative is aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness and the use of the sirens system that has been put in place by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The nationwide drill set to occur on December 31st, is an initiative by the National Civil Defence, the General Directorate of Civil Defence, in conjunction with other key government entities and non-governmental organizations under the patronage of His Excellency the Interior Minister, Lt Gen. Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.
According to officials, the drill seeks to improve emergency preparedness and increase public awareness regarding emergency response procedures, especially among vulnerable groups such as the elderly, the disabled, and families with children. The event is expected to involve the participation of thousands of emergency responders who will conduct their standard procedures and drills in different areas across the country.
“We want the public to understand that sirens are not just an audio warning, but they are a tool of communication meant to alert them of any potential threat or disaster,” an official statement read. The National Civil Defence is working closely with various government entities to ensure a comprehensive and successful drill that not only tests the capabilities of emergency responders but also educates the public.
Under the initiative, there will be a 10-minute nationwide siren sound beginning at 10:00 am on the New Year’s Eve with multiple warnings across different zones, to simulate various scenarios such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and chemical leaks.
During this exercise, all emergency services, such as the Bahrain Defence Force, police, and medical responders, will be on high alert to demonstrate how quickly they can respond to a disaster.
“We have made significant strides in our emergency preparedness, and this drill represents the commitment of the government to ensuring public safety,” a senior official commented regarding the importance of conducting this nationwide drill.
As authorities continue to educate the public on emergency preparedness, citizens are expected to stay indoors and remain tuned to local news broadcasts for the duration of the drill to gain real-time experience of what to do in case of an actual disaster.
