According to a statement released by the IRGC on multiple social media platforms and verified government channels, their forces successfully destroyed an early warning radar system utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones. Moreover, IRGC claimed that additional objectives were struck, including aviation equipment, a spare parts warehouse, and a hangar housing a US MQ-9A Reaper UCAV (Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle), an unmanned reconnaissance and combat capability employed by the US military.
The exact nature and scope of damage to the aforementioned targets have yet to be confirmed, however, multiple sources have reported that at least one MQ-9A was severely damaged in the attack. An unnamed US defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, verified that a Reaper drone was indeed at the base at the time of the strike, stating that US military personnel “were able to safely evacuate the drone’s hangar and surrounding areas,” thus avoiding any reported injuries or fatalities associated with the incident.
This incident has drawn significant attention from regional and international authorities as it marks an unprecedented, aggressive escalation by IRGC forces against the US presence in the Middle East. It also marks a departure from IRGC’s previously claimed adherence to regional neutrality.
“We are aware of this incident and continue to assess the situation,” said a statement from the US Department of Defense. “As this event continues to unfold, we will not hesitate to take all necessary steps to protect the security of our personnel and interests both in Kuwait and the region as a whole.”
Kuwaiti officials, too, have condemned this apparent act of aggression. In a formal statement, a senior government official said: “We condemn the use of violence by any entity against our sovereign territory and express our deepest gratitude to the people of the United States for their continued support.”
