Hamas Seeks to Strengthen Its Position Amid Iran Campaign, Military Commander Warns

Gaza City, Palestine – A senior military commander has warned that the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is exploiting the global campaign against Iran to bolster its own strengths and rearm.

According to a report released yesterday by Israel’s Hebrew Channel 12 citing sources within the Israeli military, Gaza Division Commander Liron Patito made the statement amidst the ongoing diplomatic tensions between Iran and Western nations. Patito expressed concern that the focus on Iran may allow Hamas to divert resources and attention from international efforts to contain it.

“Hamas is using the situation to its advantage, taking advantage of the campaign against Iran to replenish and strengthen its forces,” Commander Patito was quoted as saying in the Channel 12 report. “Iran provides financial and military support to Hamas, which it uses to build up its military capabilities, especially its rocket arsenal.”

The Israeli military has long identified Iran’s support to Hamas and its affiliated Islamist faction in Gaza, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, as a major threat to regional security. According to Israel, Iran supplies Hamas with advanced rocket systems, including those that have the capacity to strike key Israeli targets.

Commander Patito’s assessment of Hamas’s exploitation of the situation echoes that of many in the international community who believe that while Iran may pose significant threats to global security and stability, terrorist groups like Hamas still pose a major security risk.

The commander’s concerns come as the Israeli military continues to maintain a heavy presence along the Gaza border, prepared to respond to any potential escalation of violence. Israeli officials have been urging international partners to recognize the threat posed by Hamas and other militant groups in the region.

The relationship between Iran and Hamas has been a key point of discussion in recent years, with many fearing that if Iran is allowed to go unchecked, it may continue to fuel the development of Hamas and bolster its capacity for attack.

Israeli officials also stress that a comprehensive strategy aimed at containing global terrorist networks requires attention to be focused on various fronts, not just Iran.

The recent tensions between Iran and Western countries, primarily in response to concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and alleged involvement in attacks across the region, have led to a surge in warnings about the potential dangers of an escalating conflict between the two adversaries.

Commander Patito’s comments underscore the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation in confronting global terrorism. The Israeli military will likely remain on high alert, monitoring developments and adjusting its strategy as necessary to counter threats like those posed by Hamas.
