In the midst of ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, Tehran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, has taken aim at American interests in the Middle East, labeling US presence in the region as unwelcome and unnecessary. According to a statement released by the Iranian government, Baghaei reiterated that Iran values its long-standing relationships with neighboring Arab nations, but categorically rejects the notion that Washington should have a place alongside these regional partners.
Baghaei’s remarks, released on [undisclosed date] over a period of 37 days, serve as a scathing critique of the US role in the Middle East, with Tehran accusing Washington of prioritizing Israeli interests above regional stability and security. By extension, the Iranian official has emphasized the importance of regional unity, calling on local nations to prioritize the protection of one another’s interests above those of external powers.
“We have always been neighbors with the Arab countries and will remain so,” Baghaei emphasized, underscoring the historical significance of these ties. By way of stark contrast, he continued, “America does not belong to this region.” While maintaining that Iran values the bonds it shares with regional Arab nations, Baghaei’s comments underscore the deep-seated distrust with which Tehran views US intentions in the Middle East.
Furthermore, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman directly implicated the United States and Israel in ongoing regional tensions, asserting that Washington views the security of these Middle East countries as secondary to its own priorities. “Everyone has seen in these 37 days,” Baghaei declared, “that America’s only concern is protecting the existence of the Zionist regime and they place no value on the security of the countries in the region.”
Baghaei’s words were not limited to an indictment of US involvement in the region, but also served as an exhortation to regional partners to take greater responsibility for guarding their own interests. According to the Iranian diplomat, nations within the region must refrain from permitting foreign powers such as the United States to use their countries as a base of operations to launch aggression against Iran.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s stance reflects a widening rift in regional relationships, particularly as Tehran views continued US military presence in the Middle East as a threat to regional stability and the preservation of long-standing bonds between nations.
