TEL AVIV, ISRAEL – In a developing and sensitive situation, reports have surfaced of ballistic missile launches originating from Iranian territories towards Israel. The heightened tensions between the two nations have sparked international concern as military forces from both sides are on high alert.
According to sources at the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the missile launches were detected early Wednesday morning, with an estimated 12 launches recorded so far, out of which 8 ballistic missiles have successfully entered Israeli airspace. The locations in Israel where the missile landed or exploded in the air have not been disclosed.
The Iranian launches are believed to be a response to recent strikes conducted by the Israeli military against Iranian military targets in Syria and Lebanon, which has led to escalating tensions between the nations. The Israeli military views the launches as an ‘act of aggression’ and is actively responding with military action.
“This development underscores the need for a collective response from the international community to address this escalating conflict,” stated Ambassador Michael Doron of Israel to the U.N. “Iran’s aggressive actions directly threaten regional and global stability and must be countered with force where necessary.”
The situation also prompted a warning from the U.S. State Department advising U.S. citizens in Israel to be prepared for possible attacks. However, it’s unclear what specific response the U.S. plans to take in light of these developments.
In its official statement, the Iranian Government has denied responsibility for the missile launches but has warned of retaliatory measures if any strikes against its territory continue.
Iran’s Foreign Minister has since tweeted: “The Iranian people won’t stay silent forever, they have the power to defend themselves, and no foreign interference can stop a nation determined to fight for its freedom.”
Israel’s response has involved multiple waves of airstrikes targeted at Iranian military installations. The U.S. has also been involved, conducting aerial support missions in coordination with Israeli forces.
