IRAQI RESISTANCE STRIKES U.S. VICTORY BASE NEAR BAGHDAD

Baghdad, Iraq – In a brazen and escalating attack, the Iraqi resistance targeted the U.S. Victory Base near Baghdad International Airport, marking a significant escalation in tensions between Iraqi militant groups and coalition forces.

According to eyewitnesses and sources within the Iraqi military, a coordinated rocket attack on the base took place at around 02:00 local time, with multiple missiles striking various areas of the complex. The attack resulted in damage to facilities, as well as reports of several casualties among coalition personnel.

The U.S. military has confirmed the attack, stating that the assault involved a series of rocket launches against the base. While details of the extent of the damage and casualties remain sketchy, officials have acknowledged that the attack did result in fatalities and injuries.

The Iraqi resistance group responsible for the attack has yet to claim responsibility, but sources suggest that the likely perpetrator is a faction affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a loose network of militias that have been at odds with U.S. presence in Iraq.

Since its formation in 2016, the PMF has been instrumental in pushing out the Islamic State from various parts of Iraq, but the alliance has also become increasingly critical of U.S. involvement and airstrikes in the country, which they view as an affront to Iraqi sovereignty.

This latest attack serves as a stark reminder of the fragile security situation in Iraq and the ongoing tensions between the U.S. military and local militant groups. Since 2019, there have been numerous rocket attacks on Iraqi bases hosting U.S. personnel, which have resulted in casualties and heightened tensions between Baghdad and Washington.

U.S. officials have vowed to maintain their presence in Iraq despite the rising threat and have underscored their commitment to supporting the Iraqi military in its fight against terrorism. Iraq’s Prime Minister Muhsin al-Fadhli also condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for stability and continued cooperation between the U.S. and local authorities.

As the situation unfolds, officials and analysts continue to caution that further violence is possible, as various factions compete for influence within Baghdad and seek to capitalize on U.S. vulnerability.

In light of these developments, regional leaders are urged to remain vigilant and work towards mitigating the escalating tensions in the region.
