LEBANESE PRESIDENT OUTLINES KEY ROLE OF ARMED FORCES IN MAINTAINING NATIONAL STABILITY

Beirut, Lebanon – In a statement delivered from Bkerki, the residence of the Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun addressed the nation focusing on the crucial role of the country’s military forces in maintaining law and order and safeguarding national stability. President Aoun’s comments came in response to growing concerns regarding the increasing number of attacks on security personnel and military outposts.

Noting the significance of the role that security forces have played over the years, President Aoun expressed deep regret over those who target and disrupt the efforts of the army and other security units. He emphasized, “I am sorry for the people who attack the army and security forces, and I say to them: ‘What have you done for the army?'”. This question, President Aoun asserted, gets to the heart of the real issue – the lack of support for the nation’s defense forces.

Underlining the army’s unwavering commitment to the greater national interest, President Aoun highlighted their dedication and competence in upholding security. He underscored that the military’s ability to maintain order and protect the nation is unparalleled, pointing out, “The army acts according to the national interest and knows its job.” The President also acknowledged the pivotal role the military has played throughout Lebanese history, emphasizing that their presence has enabled the country to maintain a modicum of stability and security.

President Aoun went on to stress that the army would continue to serve as a cornerstone of the nation’s defenses, and that the government remains committed to their welfare and resources. Moreover, emphasizing the significance of national unity, he declared, “If it weren’t for the army, we wouldn’t be in Bkerki today.” This poignant comment reinforced the gravity of the army’s impact on the nation’s collective well-being.

The statement from Bkerki comes at a critical time in Lebanon, where concerns over national security have grown in recent months. President Aoun’s words aim to reassert the country’s commitment to stability and security, with a call to the nation to unite behind their armed forces.
