Kyiv, Ukraine – A devastating drone attack by Russia struck a residential building in the city of Dnipro in central Ukraine, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuring several others, Ukrainian authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The strike, which occurred around 5:00 AM local time, marks one of the deadliest attacks on civilian targets in recent months.
According to the Dnipro Region administration, the residential building was hit by a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that flew into the city and caused significant damage. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene to provide medical aid and evacuate residents from the rubble.
“It was around 5:00 AM when we heard the explosion,” said Oksana Kovalchuk, a resident of the building who escaped the blast. “We were shaken awake by the sound of shattering glass and debris falling from the ceiling. It was a chaotic situation, and people were panicking. We managed to get out of the building, but many others were trapped inside.”
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with multiple apartments damaged and several cars destroyed in the parking lot. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to retrieve survivors and recover the bodies of the deceased.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating that “such barbaric actions” would not go unpunished. “We mourn the loss of innocent lives and express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” he said.
The attack comes amid ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, which have been embroiled in a conflict since 2014. Despite international efforts to broker a peace deal, both sides continue to trade accusations of aggression and humanitarian atrocities.
The strike also raised concerns about the increased use of UAVs by Russia in its military campaigns, which has become more prevalent in recent months. Analysts have warned that such attacks could have devastating consequences for civilians and military personnel alike.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has yet to comment on the specifics of the attack, but officials have vowed to increase security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
“This attack highlights the need for enhanced cooperation and international action to prevent such civilian casualties,” said Oleksandr Kornienko, chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament’s Committee on National Security. “We will work closely with our international partners to strengthen our defenses and protect our civilians from such aggression.”
The Russian Embassy in Kyiv has denied any involvement in the attack, but the Ukrainian government maintains that Russia is responsible for the strike. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains on high alert, urging an end to the ongoing hostilities and a commitment to protecting civilians.
