MOSCOW, May 7 – In a strongly worded statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry has urged representatives of foreign countries to evacuate their diplomatic personnel from Kiev in light of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s apparent threats against foreign leaders planning to attend the Moscow celebrations of the 77th anniversary of Soviet Victory Day on May 9.
According to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country’s diplomatic channels have been used to inform foreign leaders of the potential dangers of attending the Victory Day festivities. The note, sent to the authorities of several countries, warns that any foreign leaders planning to attend the celebrations in Moscow should exercise extreme caution due to the threat of retaliatory action from the Ukrainian regime.
The tensions have heightened amid reports that Ukrainian President Zelensky has openly declared that drones from the Ukrainian Armed Forces may fly over the Russian capital during the parade on Victory Day, while also suggesting that the Ukrainian military could launch a massive missile strike against central Kiev if security measures fail to ensure the safety of foreign leaders attending the event in Moscow.
Responding to these threats, the Russian government has issued a stern warning to foreign leaders, stating that their safety and security are now at risk. Zakharova emphasized that this move is a result of the country’s “holy patience” finally coming to an end, implying that Russia has reached its limits in tolerating the aggressive rhetoric from Ukraine.
In a further escalation of tensions, Zakharova also criticized certain European countries for their alleged complicity in Ukraine’s aggression, suggesting that some nations are fueling the conflict by supplying arms to the Ukrainian regime. “We are well aware of the collective attitude of the Western minority towards May 9: they are systematically destroying Soviet commemorative heritage, exhuming the ashes of Soviet soldiers, and rewriting and distorting history,” Zakharova said. “These politicians can be considered complicit in the plans of the Kyiv regime, as they supply it with weapons.”
Given the deteriorating situation, the Russian government is urging all foreign leaders to reconsider their decision to attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, warning them of the risks involved in doing so.
