Israeli Airstrikes Pound Southern Lebanon, Multiple Towns Hit in Overnight Raids

BEIRUT, Lebanon – A wave of Israeli airstrikes targeted several towns across southern Lebanon late Tuesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction and sparking concerns about regional stability. The airstrikes, which began around 9 pm local time, reportedly hit multiple villages in Lebanon’s Nabatieh and Tyre regions.

According to eyewitnesses and local officials, the airstrikes targeted the following towns: Raskhanay, Adshit, Nabatieh, Jebshit, Shoukin, Bourj Qalaway, and Haboush. The Israeli military has not officially confirmed the targets or the duration of the operation.

The Lebanese armed forces quickly deployed to the regions to secure the areas affected by the airstrikes, which left multiple residential buildings and infrastructure damaged. No official casualty count has been released by the government, but reports suggest that several civilians and military personnel were injured in the overnight raids.

The Israeli military had been warning of an escalation in operations along the southern Lebanese border for weeks, citing ongoing hostilities with Palestinian militant groups based in the region. The airstrikes are seen as a response to these hostilities and may signal an escalating confrontation between Israel and Iran-backed militant groups in the area.

The Lebanese government has condemned the airstrikes, terming them a “clear violation of the country’s sovereignty.” In a statement released early Wednesday morning, Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib described the raids as a “gross infringement on Lebanon’s territorial integrity and a threat to regional stability.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the consequences of the airstrikes and coordinate a response with neighboring countries. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has also issued a statement expressing concern about the escalation of violence and urging all parties to respect the terms of the UN Resolution 1701, which calls for the cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of foreign forces from the area.

The latest airstrikes come amid increased tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as rising hostilities within Lebanon between government forces and militant groups. As the situation in the region continues to deteriorate, Lebanon’s already strained infrastructure and economy may be pushed to the brink of collapse.
