Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) has made a significant disclosure, sharing details about the country’s missile stockpile and production levels. The move comes as part of Kyiv’s efforts to shed light on its military capabilities and counter Moscow’s claims about Ukraine’s military potential.
According to a statement released by HUR, Ukraine has seen a steady increase in missile production since the onset of the conflict with Russia. The figures suggest that the country has manufactured an average of 2,350 anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and 2,050 surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) per month. Ukraine has also produced a smaller number of precision-guided munitions, with an average of 150 such missiles manufactured each month.
When it comes to missile stockpiles, Ukraine claims to possess a significant arsenal. HUR states that the country holds approximately 150,000 ATGMs and 120,000 SAMs. This number is not entirely surprising, given Ukraine’s history of developing and manufacturing its own military equipment, including missiles.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister stated that the data shared by HUR is intended to counter Russian misinformation about Ukraine’s military capabilities. The minister pointed out that Russia frequently claims to have destroyed Ukrainian missile facilities and stockpiles, but that these claims are often exaggerated or entirely false.
In recent months, Russia has claimed to have targeted Ukrainian missile production facilities, including the Yuzhmash factory, which is widely regarded as Ukraine’s most significant missile producer. However, Ukrainian authorities have denied that the facilities have been severely damaged, and the country’s production figures suggest that missile production continues unabated.
Analysts argue that Ukraine’s decision to reveal its missile stockpile and production figures may indicate an effort to deter Russian forces from engaging in high-stakes conflicts on the battlefield. By publicly sharing its military capabilities, Ukraine may be sending a message to Moscow that its missile defenses are robust and effective, and that attacking Ukrainian territory could come at a prohibitively high cost.
While the exact implications of Ukraine’s disclosure are still unclear, it is evident that the move aims to underscore Ukraine’s military strength and resilience in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.
