In a demonstration of enhanced bilateral cooperation and collective defense capabilities, the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) and the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) have commenced Exercise Valiant Shield 2026 in the Pacific Ocean.
This prestigious annual exercise aims to foster cooperation between the two nations’ armed forces through joint training, with a focus on ensuring regional security and stability. In addition to the formidable air contingent, two advanced submarines have been spotted participating in the exercise. The JSDF’s Taigei-class attack submarine JS Jingei has been joined by the US Navy’s Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS Minnesota.
