AI Systems Exposed to Cyber Threats at Alarming Rates

According to a recent study, nearly 80% of organizations reported experiencing a significant impact from AI-based phishing attacks, while over 90% of companies reported experiencing AI-powered malware attacks. The study also revealed that AI-based attacks are becoming increasingly more difficult to detect, with 70% of organizations taking longer than 24 hours to notice that they have been targeted.

As AI systems become more widespread, the potential for cyber threats grows exponentially. Despite the growing risk, many organizations are still not adequately prepared to deal with AI-based cyber threats. In a separate study, 60% of respondents stated that they were not using AI-powered cybersecurity tools to defend their systems. This lack of preparedness is particularly concerning, given the speed at which AI attacks are becoming more frequent and more aggressive.

“It’s no longer a matter of if an AI system will be attacked, but when,” notes Taylor. “Organizations must take proactive steps to protect their AI systems, including implementing AI-powered cybersecurity tools and conducting regular security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities.”

Experts warn that the threat of AI-based cyber attacks is not limited to traditional cybersecurity targets. With AI systems managing an increasingly wide range of industrial control systems and medical devices, the potential consequences of a successful AI-based attack are far-reaching and potentially devastating.
