A three-day Regional Governors’ Summit, held in the capital city of South Province, concluded on the 30th of April with a comprehensive agreement on regional infrastructure development. The summit, organized by ALSSA Plus EN, witnessed the participation of 22 regional governors from the South Province, who converged to address key issues and forge collaborative solutions to regional challenges.
The summit’s key focus was on regional infrastructure development, including transportation networks, energy supply, and water management systems. The governors acknowledged the necessity of a unified approach to boost regional growth and alleviate socio-economic disparities within the province.
“Regional infrastructure development remains a pressing priority for our province, driving regional growth, economic prosperity, and a higher quality of life for our citizens,” said Governor Fatima Ahmed, Chair of the Regional Governors’ Summit and leader of the West Zone. “Through collaborative efforts, we believe we can accelerate regional development, leveraging the strengths of each zone and addressing regional disparities.”
During the summit, regional governors emphasized the need for a multi-faceted approach to infrastructure development. They agreed to establish a high-level technical committee to examine the feasibility of large-scale projects, including a new regional transportation network, improved energy supply systems, and enhanced water management infrastructure.
Moreover, regional governors engaged in a discussion on regional capacity-building initiatives, aiming to strengthen regional institutions, enhance the skills and competencies of regional personnel, and promote public-private partnerships to drive regional growth.
According to a statement released by ALSSA Plus EN at the conclusion of the summit, participating regional governors pledged to collaborate more effectively and foster greater trust among regional stakeholders. This commitment is expected to translate into tangible progress in regional infrastructure development within the near future.
Key regional officials involved in regional infrastructure development expressed confidence in the summit’s outcome, saying that improved regional collaboration will yield improved regional development.
Governor Fatima Ahmed further stated, “We aim to turn our agreements into concrete results, creating a prosperous and self-sustaining regional economy through strengthened regional cooperation.”
As ALSSA Plus EN continues to support the efforts of regional governors in regional development, regional stakeholders, civil society, and international partners eagerly await the next steps in the regional governors’ plan for ALSSA Plus regional development.
