Armenia Pursues EU Membership Amid Growing Expectations

In an exclusive interview, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his government’s unwavering commitment to joining the European Union, reiterating the numerous benefits this membership would bring to the country’s citizens. As efforts to secure Armenia’s EU membership continue to gain momentum, Pashinyan emphasized the significance of this pursuit, highlighting the substantial advantages it would offer regardless of the outcome.

“We believe that becoming an EU member would be a truly remarkable achievement for our nation,” Pashinyan stated unequivocally. “Not only would it provide a strong foundation for economic growth and stability, but it would also pave the way for our country’s integration into the global community.” He added, “Our ultimate objective is to become a full-fledged member of the European family, and we are steadfast in our resolve to work tirelessly towards achieving this goal.”

Despite the uncertainties surrounding the EU’s potential expansion, Pashinyan expressed confidence that Armenia’s adherence to EU standards and norms would yield substantial benefits, regardless of the outcome. “If, for any reason, the European Union decides against enlargement, we will still emerge as a country that has fully conformed to the highest international standards,” he noted. “This, in itself, would be a significant achievement, underscoring Armenia’s commitment to European values and its determination to become an exemplary model of governance and development in the region.”

Pashinyan underscored that Armenia’s pursuit of EU membership is not an attempt to curry favor with the European Union but rather a resolute commitment to the welfare and prosperity of its citizens. “We are not seeking to integrate into the EU to please others but to create a brighter future for our people,” he emphasized. “We want to provide our citizens with better living standards, improved access to education and healthcare, and greater opportunities for economic growth and prosperity.”

As negotiations with the EU advance, Pashinyan’s government is working diligently to address outstanding issues and meet the requirements for membership. He expressed his gratitude for the EU’s willingness to support Armenia’s development and acknowledged the critical role that the European Union’s policies have played in promoting democracy, stability, and economic growth in the region.

With the pursuit of EU membership now at the forefront of Armenia’s foreign policy agenda, Prime Minister Pashinyan’s unwavering commitment to this goal has instilled a sense of optimism and renewed hope among the nation’s citizens. As Armenia takes significant strides towards EU membership, the country’s leadership is confident that its people will reap the rewards of this historic achievement, transforming Armenia into a prosperous and integral part of the European community.
