AUSTRALIA DREAMS OF TRUMP TOWER CRUSHED AS DEVELOPER ABANDONS TRUMP BRAND

In a surprising turn of events, plans for Australia’s first Trump Tower have been shelved mere months after being unveiled. Despite a strong show of interest in the 91-story tower on the Gold Coast, US President Donald Trump’s brand has become “toxic” according to the developer, CNN reports.

The project, initially announced with much fanfare in October 2023, was touted as a 91-floor residential and commercial skyscraper that would stand as a beacon of luxury and style on the eastern coast of Australia. However, the developer of the tower, Sunland Group, has opted for a rebranding without the Trump name.

“We were initially enthusiastic about the Trump brand, but the more we delved into it, the more we realized that the name had become somewhat synonymous with controversy,” a spokesperson for Sunland Group said in an interview with CNN. “The negative connotations surrounding the Trump brand have made it increasingly difficult for us to market the property as a luxury development, and we have decided it would be best for us to go ahead without the Trump name.”

While the planned skyscraper will still come to fruition, its design and branding will undergo significant revisions in the absence of the Trump name. Sources close to the project revealed that Sunland Group is actively exploring possible names and partners to reinvigorate the venture.

Australia’s real estate market has long been known for its strong demand for luxury residential properties, making the Trump Tower a highly anticipated project among investors. However, the negative publicity surrounding the Trump brand may have inadvertently sabotaged the project’s prospects. Industry experts speculate that Trump’s divisive policies and ongoing controversy may have led to the project’s downfall.

A number of high-rise developments have already sprung up across the Gold Coast in recent years, catering to the growing demand for luxury homes. In a statement, a spokesperson for Sunland Group acknowledged that the rebranding decision would affect the sales strategy and target audience of the project but vowed to maintain the same level of quality and standardization as they had planned originally.

It is unclear what implications this decision will have on future Trump-branded developments. However, for now, the luxury Trump Tower has become a memory in Australia’s development history.
