Bahrain Signs Historic Agreement with Global Ophthalmic Organization

In a landmark move that is expected to boost the quality of eye care in the kingdom, the government of Bahrain has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Association of Optometrists and Ophthalmologists (IAOO). The agreement, which was inked on the sidelines of an international ophthalmic conference held in Manama, aims to establish Bahrain as a regional hub for eye care services and medical tourism.

Under the terms of the agreement, the IAOO will provide Bahrain with technical assistance and support to upgrade its ophthalmic services, including the establishment of state-of-the-art eye care facilities and the training of local healthcare professionals in the latest ophthalmic techniques.

Bahrain’s Minister of Health, Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh, hailed the agreement as a major milestone in the kingdom’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of its citizens. “This agreement is a testament to our commitment to providing the highest standards of eye care to the people of Bahrain,” she said. “We are confident that our partnership with the IAOO will have a profound impact on the lives of our citizens and position Bahrain as a leader in ophthalmic care in the region.”

The agreement is also expected to create new economic opportunities for Bahrain, with the country poised to become a major destination for medical tourists seeking eye care services. Bahrain’s Minister of Tourism, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, welcomed the agreement, saying that it would help to promote the country’s reputation as a leader in healthcare tourism.

The IAOO’s Secretary-General, Dr. Fatima Al-Darwish, praised Bahrain for its commitment to improving eye care services and for its vision in establishing a regional hub for ophthalmic care. “Bahrain’s leadership in this area is a source of pride for the entire region,” she said. “We are confident that our partnership will achieve great things and bring significant benefits to the people of Bahrain and the wider region.”

The signing of the MoU comes at a time when eye care is a growing concern globally, with millions of people suffering from a range of vision impairments. Bahrain’s agreement with the IAOO is part of a broader effort to address this issue and improve access to eye care services in the region.

In related news, the Bahraini government has announced plans to establish a new eye care hospital in the kingdom, which will be equipped with the latest technology and staffed by world-class ophthalmic specialists. The hospital is expected to be operational within the next 24 months and will cater to both local and international patients seeking eye care services.
