CANADA URGES ISRAEL TO EASE TENSION IN MIDDLE EAST

Ottawa, Canada – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed deep concern over the recent treatment of civilians, including Canadians, aboard the Gaza-bound flotilla. Carney voiced his concerns directly to Israeli President Isaac Herzog in a phone call on Monday, urging for an independent investigation into the matter. Moreover, the Canadian Prime Minister condemned the recent vile remarks by Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir, which he deemed to be utterly unacceptable.

Carney reaffirmed Canada’s unwavering support for a two-state solution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while reiterating its stance that Israel has the right to self-defense under international law. However, he stressed the need for Israel to protect civilians and infrastructure in the region. Notably, Canada remains committed to promoting de-escalation across the Middle East, with a focus on stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Canadian Prime Minister also emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip. The region, already reeling from severe economic hardship, requires substantial assistance to avert a deepening humanitarian crisis. Furthermore, Carney called for renewed dialogue on a pressing issue – the situation in Lebanon. This diplomatic push seeks to foster cooperation between regional stakeholders to stabilize a nation plagued by internal strife and economic challenges.

Canada is deeply opposed to Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which it terms as “illegal.” This stance is rooted in its commitment to the principles of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. The Canadian government remains committed to promoting peace and stability in the region, while also protecting the rights of innocent civilians.

Prime Minister Carney’s phone call to President Herzog underscores the importance of Canada’s diplomatic relations with Israel. As both nations work to strengthen their ties, they must continue to confront the complex challenges that confront the Middle East. By fostering dialogue, promoting de-escalation, and upholding the rule of law, both Canada and Israel can help pave the way for a more stable and peaceful future for the region.
