CENTCOM Celebrates Maritime Blockade Milestone Against Iran

In a significant development, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has reached a milestone in enforcing the naval blockade on Iran, announced a recent update on the operation. Since the implementation of the blockade on April 13, American forces have successfully redirected 100 commercial vessels, foiling attempts by ships to engage in illicit activities.

According to the release, American forces have deployed an impressive force to enforce compliance with the blockade. Over the past six weeks, CENTCOM reports that more than 15,000 soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen have been involved in the operation. A diverse range of military assets has assisted in the mission, including 200 U.S. aircraft, several warships, and guided-missile destroyers. Key U.S. military groups, such as the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group, and the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group/31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, have participated in the mission.

CENTCOM emphasizes that the blockade is enforced against all commercial vessels, regardless of nationality, traveling in or out of Iranian ports, including those in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. This includes all Iranian ships, which have been closely monitored by the U.S. naval forces. The blockade, a response to a presidential proclamation, is aimed at preventing Iranian illicit activities and the transportation of cargo to support the country’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs.

While enforcing the naval blockade, CENTCOM forces have also taken note of the humanitarian circumstances in Iran and have allowed 26 humanitarian aid ships to pass through without interruption. It appears that these humanitarian efforts demonstrate the U.S. commitment to providing assistance to the Iranian people while restricting resources essential to Iran’s controversial nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

The success of the maritime blockade marks a crucial operation by the U.S. military in the region. CENTCOM’s accomplishment serves as a significant deterrent against potential illicit activities and has set a precedent for future maritime control operations.
