CHAD UNDER SIEGE: Boko Haram Launches Devastating Attack on Chad

N’Djamena, Chad – In a shocking escalation of violence, Islamist insurgent group Boko Haram has launched a severe attack on the northern region of Chad, leaving a trail of destruction and death in its wake. Initial reports indicate that the assault, which is believed to have begun in the early hours of yesterday morning, has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread damage to infrastructure.

According to sources within the Chadian military, Boko Haram fighters clashed with government troops in the town of Bol, situated in the Lac region, some 200 kilometers north of the capital city of N’Djamena. The attackers, reportedly armed with artillery and rocket-propelled grenades, launched a fierce assault on the town, leaving civilians trapped in the midst of the chaos.

Eyewitness accounts describe the scene as “absolute pandemonium,” with panicked residents fleeing their homes in search of safety. “We were awoken by the sound of gunfire and explosions,” said one local resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “We ran outside to find chaos and destruction everywhere. It was like a war zone.”

Chadian authorities have confirmed that a number of security personnel have been killed or injured in the battle, although exact numbers are as yet unknown. International aid agencies have expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the attack, with fears that many civilians may be in urgent need of assistance.

“This is a disturbing and worrying development,” said spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in N’Djamena. “We are working closely with authorities to ensure that those affected receive the help they need, but we are deeply concerned about the scale of the destruction and the potential for further unrest.”

Chad has long been a target for Boko Haram, which has repeatedly launched attacks on the country’s northern border. The latest assault is the most severe in months, and it has prompted calls for international support and solidarity from regional leaders.

“This is an attack on all of us,” said a senior official from the East African Community (EAC), speaking on condition of anonymity. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Chad and pledge to do everything in our power to support their government and people in this time of need.”

The attack is also seen as a significant escalation of Boko Haram’s ongoing insurgency in the region, which has already claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions of people. Authorities are warning of a heightened risk of further militant activity in the coming days and weeks, and are urging citizens to remain vigilant and follow official instructions.

In the meantime, aid workers and humanitarian organizations are rushing to provide support to those affected by the attack. “This is a very difficult time for the people of Chad,” said an ICRC spokesperson. “But we will not abandon them. We will do everything in our power to help those in need.”
