Egypt’s Foreign Minister Weighs in on Israeli Security, Pinpoints Palestinian Cause as Regional Conflicter’s Core

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, may step down due to other political roles taken, however, outgoing foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty, has been at the forefront of regional diplomacy, advocating for stability and peace in the Middle East. In an exclusive interview, he revealed his perspective on Israel’s approach to security and the ongoing conflict with Palestinians.

Abdelatty emphasized that sheer military might and economic power will not be sufficient to guarantee lasting security and stability for Israel. Instead, he underscored the need for a comprehensive solution that addresses the central issue at the heart of the conflict in the region: the Palestinian cause.

According to Abdelatty, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict constitutes the core of the regional problem, and resolving it is essential for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East. This is not a matter of minor regional concern but a global issue in need of a collective and diplomatic effort.

Moreover, Abdelatty highlighted that the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people is inalienable and that failure to recognize this fundamental right will preclude the possibility of a sustainable peace for Israel.

He stated that the international community must acknowledge the Palestinian right to a sovereign state with its capital in East Jerusalem. Furthermore, acknowledging that the refugee issue must be resolved on the basis of a mutually acceptable solution between the two parties.

Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Abdelatty pointed to the ongoing occupation of disputed territories, restrictions on movement and economic activities in those regions, and denial of basic human rights as major obstacles to achieving peace and stability.

Furthermore, Abdelatty mentioned that Israeli settlement expansion and the demolition of Palestinian homes would only exacerbate the already dire situation. Moreover, the failure of the Israeli government to make concessions necessary for a negotiated solution perpetuates the conflict and hinders peace efforts.

Ultimately, Abdelatty reemphasized the pressing need for a solution that takes into account the rights and interests of the Palestinian people, recognizing that it is an essential step in creating an enduring atmosphere of peace and security in the Middle East.
