Dubai, UAE – Reports of a ship on fire off the coast of the United Arab Emirates have sent shockwaves across the region, amidst ongoing concerns about fuel security. Although the incident remains unconfirmed, a video circulating on social media platforms appears to show a vessel engulfed in flames in international waters off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
Eyewitnesses claim that the fire began sometime early yesterday morning, when a ship reportedly carrying a cargo of flammable liquids encountered engine failure. The incident is believed to have occurred approximately 30 nautical miles off the coast of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, near the Ras Ghanada port.
According to local reports, authorities were alerted to the incident shortly after 02:00 am local time. Emergency services, comprising a team of naval sailors and UAE coast guards, quickly arrived on the scene and are reportedly engaged in firefighting efforts.
A video shared on Twitter by Middle East Spectator, a reputable news outlet, appears to show the extent of the damage. Shot from a distance, the footage captures a glimpse of a ship listing severely to one side, billowing smoke and flames high into the air.
While details surrounding the incident remain scarce, several maritime analysts have expressed concerns that a fuel crisis in the region could have far-reaching consequences. “The implications of a fire on a fuel-laden vessel are alarming,” said Captain Saeed Al-Kuwaiti, a veteran maritime expert based in Dubai. “Given the critical importance of the UAE’s role in global trade and fuel distribution, this incident must be closely monitored for any potential impact on regional stability and global energy markets.”
A spokesperson for the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority said authorities are currently working to assess the situation and prevent any potential damage to the region’s sensitive marine ecosystem. Efforts are also underway to establish a cause for the fire and to conduct an investigation.
