Fujairah, United Arab Emirates – A series of massive fires erupted at the Fujairah oil industries early yesterday morning, sending a thick plume of smoke and flames into the sky. The blaze, which has yet to be fully extinguished, has brought economic activities to a grinding halt, disrupting the region’s major supply chains.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire began around 4:00 AM (local time) at one of the major storage facilities, quickly spreading to adjacent units due to the sheer volume of combustible materials. As of the latest reports, at least three oil storage tanks have been engulfed in flames, releasing hazardous fumes and toxic smoke into the atmosphere.
“It was like nothing we have ever seen before,” said eyewitness Mohammed Rashid, who witnessed the fire from a nearby village. “The flames were massive, and the smoke was so thick that you couldn’t see anything more than 10 meters in front of you.”
Local authorities have immediately launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, although initial reports suggest that a combination of high winds and human error might be behind the tragedy.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and to stay away from the affected area” said Colonel Ali Al-Khatri, a spokesperson for the Fujairah Police Department.
Emergency responders, including members of the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, have been deployed to the scene to coordinate relief efforts and assist in containing the fire. However, their efforts have been hindered by limited access and the hazardous conditions.
As the situation remains fluid, residents have been advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors shut to prevent the hazardous fumes from entering their homes. Additionally, local authorities have imposed a strict no-fly zone over the affected area to prevent any accidental aircraft crashes.
Industry experts estimate that the economic losses to the region could be substantial, potentially running into the tens of millions of dollars. The blaze has also raised concerns about environmental damage, with many calling for stricter regulations to be implemented in the industry.
This is not the first time the Fujairah oil industries have faced a major challenge, but the scale and severity of this incident have left many in the region shocked and worried. As investigations continue, authorities vow to get to the bottom of the incident and ensure that such a disaster is never repeated.
