Gaza Conflict Claims Casualties as Palestinian Ministry of Health Reports Increase in Injuries

GAZA CITY, May 30 (XINHUA/Reuters) – Gaza, Occupied Palestine – In the ongoing conflict between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in casualties over the past 48 hours, with at least seven people martyred and multiple others injured.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the casualties occurred after Israeli forces launched airstrikes on various locations within the Gaza Strip. The attacks, which began late on Saturday, saw intense shelling of the coastal enclave, resulting in widespread destruction.

Among those killed were four men and three women, with ages ranging from 25 to 42 years old, according to Palestinian officials. The identities of the deceased were not immediately disclosed, but relatives confirmed the fatalities to local media outlets.

Additionally, 25 others were injured, with some sustaining critical wounds, requiring immediate medical attention. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes at local hospitals as medical teams struggled to treat the influx of patients.

“We have seen an unprecedented number of injuries, many of whom are in critical condition,” said Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza. Al-Qedra added that the hospitals were overcrowded, which raised concerns about the availability of medical resources.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials claimed that the airstrikes targeted militant sites and infrastructure, and that the strikes were in response to rocket attacks by armed groups in Gaza.

The escalation of violence has raised concerns among international organizations and local residents, who have called for an immediate end to the bloodshed.

“This is a senseless cycle of violence, resulting in tragic losses on both sides,” said Dr. Mads Gilstrup Kristensen, a senior official with the World Health Organization. “We urge all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize the welfare of civilians, particularly in areas most affected by the conflict.”

Since the start of the conflict, the international community has been urging an immediate ceasefire, while simultaneously pushing for a resolution to the underlying issues fueling the violence.

The situation in Gaza remains volatile, with tensions running high between Palestinian and Israeli forces.
