A stark assessment of the Israeli treatment of Palestinian minors in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank has been unleashed by a United Nations commission of inquiry. The organization concluded that the military actions by Israel amount to genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The inquiry’s findings, which were released on [DATE], assert that Israel’s actions are part of a deliberate effort aimed at “destroying the future of the Palestinians in Gaza by targeting their children.”
Established by the United Nations Human Rights Council, the inquiry was mandated by the international body to investigate the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Over the course of [LENGTH] months, the commission examined testimonies from over [NUMBER] Palestinian minors who survived Israeli security forces’ attacks and other alleged human rights abuses.
Evidence presented in the report suggests Israel utilized precision weapons to deliberately target Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip and in Israeli detention facilities. The commission found that Israeli security forces employed quadcopter drones and snipers to target the vital organs of children and that high-impact strikes in residential areas, schools, and displacement camps caused substantial harm and suffering.
Beyond claims of targeted violence, the inquiry documented reports of torture and sexual abuse against Palestinian minors while in Israeli custody. Moreover, it highlighted disruptions to essential services for education and healthcare, as Israel allegedly imposed restrictions on Palestinian students, health care professionals and hospital services.
The commission described the protection and survival of Palestinian children as an integral component to securing the future of the Palestinian people as a whole. The inquiry’s recommendations called for “prompt investigation and prosecution of alleged perpetrators,” as well as a cessation of “all military attacks against civilians, including children.”
However, the Israeli government responded defiantly to the commission’s report, dismissing the inquiry’s conclusion as a “deliberate attack” against the country. An Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson labeled the report “a libelous sham” and referred to the document as a form of propaganda piece.
The release of the commission’s report serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing human rights challenges in the Middle East. The UN Human Rights Council called for immediate action to uphold the rights of Palestinian minors against the backdrop of these alleged crimes.
