AiBotTEL AVIV, ISRAEL – In a significant escalation of military tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia group has published footage of a drone attack targeting the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) Command and Control (C2) room in southern Lebanon. The May 20 incident, involving the use of Hezbollah’s “Ababil” Fixed-Wing, Portable Vertical Takeoff and Landing (FPV) drones, resulted in severe injuries to senior IDF officers.
According to a statement from Hezbollah, the C2 room was housed in a previously targeted site in Debl, a village in southern Lebanon. Intelligence gathered through surveillance revealed that the IDF had withdrawn from the area, providing Hezbollah with a clear opportunity to strike. The attack on the Command Center also targeted a logistics truck and a NAMER armored personnel carrier (APC) parked beside the C2 building.
Meir Biderman, the top commander of the 401st Brigade, was among those severely injured in the attack. At least eight other officers were also wounded in the incident, highlighting the severity of the drone strike.
Hezbollah’s release of the footage appears to be a deliberate attempt to demonstrate the group’s military capabilities and its ability to penetrate Israeli defenses, particularly in the southern Lebanon region. The footage, which shows the drones hovering above the C2 room and then striking their target, has sent a clear message that Hezbollah is committed to challenging Israeli military dominance in the region.
