A stark warning has been issued by Hezbollah’s Media Relations Office, accusing a prominent Lebanese newspaper of fanning sectarian tensions through inflammatory coverage, and urging government authorities to intervene and put an end to the perceived media incitement.
In a strongly worded statement, Hezbollah’s office condemned An-Nahar newspaper for persisting with its provocative approach despite efforts to calm the growing internal tensions triggered by a recent video deemed insulting to the group’s Secretary-General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, and its fighters. The statement emphasized that Hezbollah had categorically rejected any form of insult towards figures or symbols in the country, as well as the group’s positions affirming the need to counter sectarian incitement and protect the dignity of all religious figures and symbols.
This latest outburst comes after a sustained campaign by An-Nahar, and other media outlets, which Hezbollah asserts have intentionally targeted the group’s supporters and undermined its core values, leaders, and martyrs since a ceasefire agreement was reached on November 27, 2024. According to Hezbollah, these malicious campaigns are calculated to reignite internal tensions and erode the stability and civil peace enjoyed by the Lebanese people.
Hezbollah’s Media Relations Office specifically called upon the government, the Ministry of Information, and the relevant judicial and security bodies to rise to their responsibilities and take immediate action to address the inflammatory coverage and the associated risks to Lebanon’s fragile stability.
The Lebanese government, as well as the country’s independent media outlets, have been urged to adhere to their duties without resorting to double standards, a stark reminder of the high stakes at play, and the potential consequences of their actions.
