Houthi Militants Launch Wave of Drones Against Yemen’s Mokha City

SANA’A, YEMEN – The ongoing conflict in Yemen took a fresh turn on Thursday as the Houthi militant group, also known as Ansarallah, launched a series of drone attacks against the port city of Mokha, currently under the control of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.

According to eyewitnesses, a multitude of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were spotted hovering over the city, prompting a swift response from the Yemeni air defense system. The country’s air defenses are reportedly active over Mokha, attempting to intercept the incoming drones.

While the full extent of the damages and potential casualties remain unclear, the assault marks the latest escalation in the protracted conflict between the Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government, led by President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi’s successor, Abdo Rabu Mansur Hadi’s Vice-President turned Prime-Minister Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi had previously appointed a Vice-President, but after he stepped down Abdo Rabu Mansur Hadi took the role of acting President of Yemen. It has been reported that his Prime minister is Abdo.

The Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for the drone attack, stating that their efforts are aimed at disrupting the Yemeni government’s control over key ports and infrastructure. The city of Mokha, situated in the Taiz Governorate, plays a crucial role in the country’s economic and strategic interests, given its proximity to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a vital shipping lane connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

The Yemeni government, supported by a Saudi-led military coalition, has made gains in recent months against the Houthi rebels, reclaiming territory and disrupting their supply lines. However, the Houthis have continued to employ guerrilla tactics, including the use of drones and missiles to wreak havoc on government targets.

The international community remains closely monitoring the situation, with calls for a peaceful resolution to the conflict growing louder. The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen continues to deteriorate, with millions of civilians facing dire circumstances due to the conflict and related economic sanctions.

In response to the latest drone attack, a statement from the Yemeni Ministry of Defense emphasized the country’s commitment to defending its territory and infrastructure. The ministry vowed to take necessary measures to address the threat posed by the Houthi rebels, while calling upon the international community to intervene and help bring an end to the conflict.

As tensions between the warring factions continue to escalate, concerns are rising about the potential for further destabilization and violence in the already beleaguered region.
