Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have issued a high alert warning residents in several towns in southern Lebanon to take precautions in anticipation of escalating tensions along the Lebanese border. The warning, which comes against the backdrop of heightened regional instability, specifically targets residents in 15 towns in the Nabatiyeh and Tyre governorates.
Residents of Sal’a, Burj Qalawiya, Jbeishit, Al-Qusayba in Nabatiyeh, as well as Frun, Abya, Deir Kifah, Kafr Sair, Srifa, Al-Ghanduriyah, Al-Nafakhiyah, Qaqiyat Al-Jisr, Adshiet Al-Shiqif, and nearby regions are advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid traveling to sensitive border areas and remain indoors, ideally in designated safe zones, in case of potential hostilities.
While no explicit cause for the heightened alert has been publicly disclosed by the IDF, regional intelligence reports suggest that a recent surge in the deployment of Iranian-backed Hezbollah militants in the region has contributed to Israel’s concerns. Tensions between Tel Aviv and Damascus have historically heightened the likelihood of armed confrontations.
According to eyewitnesses, Lebanese military reinforcements have also been deployed in key border locations in response to the Israeli warning. The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) expressed confidence in their ability to maintain stability and security in the region, asserting that all measures were being taken to prevent any potential escalation.
The Israeli decision to issue this alert comes as part of a broader effort to safeguard Israeli territory from perceived threats emanating from the north. This move also underscores growing regional unease as tensions between Israel and Iran remain unresolved, raising concerns about the potential for further conflict.
A statement on social media by a local resident in Tyre claimed, “The situation here is escalating fast; our local mayor informed us today that residents have been advised to prepare emergency kits, just in case. The mood among the locals is tense, and most are worried about their families’ safety.”
